HELP NEEDED: AmeriCorps Members Are Helping Us Build a Nature-Connected San Diego

At San Diego Bird Alliance (SDBA), we believe in the power of nature to connect, heal, and inspire. And thanks to our incredible AmeriCorps team members, that power is reaching more people than ever before.

Through our two national service programs - the SDBA Volunteer and Communications Expansion VISTA Project and the SDBA Climate Action Corps Fellowship - we currently host seven inspiring AmeriCorps members who are helping us:

  • Restore critical native habitats
  • Build wildfire resiliency through native plant education
  • Expand our environmental education efforts into underserved neighborhoods
  • Recruit volunteers who care about biodiversity and community

These AmeriCorps members are making it easier for everyone to enjoy and protect San Diego’s incredible natural spaces. Our VISTA members work to lower barriers to nature access and environmental education. Our Climate Action Corps Fellows empower communities with tools and knowledge about native plants and climate action.

And it’s not just what they give; it’s what they gain. These members receive valuable workforce training, mentorship, and the opportunity to lead community-based solutions to today’s most pressing environmental challenges.

But now, this vital pipeline of service and community impact is under threat.

Federal cuts to AmeriCorps staffing are jeopardizing the infrastructure that supports programs like ours. Without a strong AmeriCorps agency to execute grants and enroll members, nonprofits like SDBA may lose a critical engine for impact.

We need your support to make sure that doesn’t happen. Take 2 minutes and call your federal representative now, and then draft an email. If you live in San Diego, the following representatives are representing us, but also check this link to find yours. And, use this script to advocate for retaining Americorps funding.
